How Often Should You Visit Your Midtown and Mount Pleasant Dentist?

The usual rule of thumb for visiting your midtown and Mount Pleasant dentist is that a cleaning and check-up are recommended about every six months. This is a good rule for most people because even if you are great at taking care of your teeth, there is still a chance of getting a cavity, oral cancer or gum disease. The sooner these and other potential issues are caught, the easier they are to treat.

However, the every six month schedule may not be best for everyone. Some patients with higher risk might want to see their midtown and Mount Pleasant dentist more often than every six months. Some may want to come in for a check-up as often as every 3-4 months.

High risk individuals who should consider more frequent dental visits include:

  • Smokers
  • Diabetics
  • Pregnant women
  • Those with weak immune systems
  • Those who are more prone to gum disease and/or cavities.

At different times in your life, you may also want to change how often you see your dentist. For example, if you are experiencing a period where you are facing an illness or have high stress levels, you may want to see your dentist more often to help you avoid infection or treat changes that may be happening in your mouth.

In addition to regular dental visits, you may also need to come in for visits when you have a dental emergency or if you are experiencing pain and/or other unusual symptoms with your teeth and gums. If you are unsure whether your mouth needs medical attention, contact your midtown and Mount Pleasant dentist’s office. Their trained staff will know the right questions to ask to determine whether your issue can wait until your next scheduled appointment or whether you should come in sooner.

Usually, as long as you are taking good care of your teeth and gums, you can visit your dentist every six months but sometimes we all need a little extra help. If you are unsure of how often you should be visiting your midtown and Mount Pleasant dentist, have a conversation with him or her about your specific issues and ask for their advice.
